Noopept: product details and research reference

Noopept is a small synthetic compound used in lab studies of cognitive pathways and neurotrophic signaling. We sell it as capsules for laboratory research use only. It suits researchers who expect a professionally handled capsule product. They also expect manufacturing standards, internal quality review and in-house shipping.

What is Noopept?

Noopept is N-phenylacetyl-L-prolylglycine ethyl ester. Its international nonproprietary name (INN) is omberacetam, and it is also coded GVS-111. Scientists at a Moscow pharmacology institute designed it as a dipeptide analog of piracetam (Gudasheva et al., 2018).

It is built from L-proline and glycine joined by a peptide bond. A phenylacetyl group caps the proline nitrogen, and the glycine end is an ethyl ester. Its developers named it from the words "nootropic" and "peptide." Yet at 318.4 g/mol, it is far smaller than most research peptides.

Research areas

Noopept is used in models of cognitive pathways, neurotrophic signaling, memory-related biology and synaptic plasticity. Labs study it in learning-related pathways, glutamate activity models and neuroprotection-linked mechanisms. Other work looks at central nervous system (CNS) signaling, response and regulation. It also covers nootropic pathways, stress response, nerve cell communication and biology linked to neurotrophic factors.

What published studies examined

Most published work on Noopept comes from the Moscow institute that developed it and its partners. Each line below names the model.

Metabolism in ratsThe main metabolite in rat brain was cycloprolylglycine. Plasma and brain enzymes formed it from Noopept in vitro. The authors proposed that Noopept is a prodrug (Gudasheva et al., 1997).
Growth factor mRNA in ratsA 2008 study measured NGF and BDNF mRNA in rat hippocampus. It reported that both rose after exposure. The study measured mRNA, not protein, and came from the developing lab (Ostrovskaya et al., 2008).
Cell stress modelsOne study looked at nerve cell damage from glutamate and oxidative stress in cultured cerebellar granule cells (Andreeva et al., 2000). Another used human cortical neuron cultures exposed to hydrogen peroxide (Pelsman et al., 2003).
Amyloid cell modelA 2014 study used PC12 cells exposed to amyloid beta 25-35. It measured cell viability, mitochondrial membrane potential, apoptosis and tau phosphorylation (Ostrovskaya et al., 2014).
Independent mouse studyA Spanish group studied it as SGS-111 in Ts65Dn mice, a Down syndrome model. The model's cognitive deficits were not reversed (Rueda et al., 2008).

Handling and storage

  • Store the sealed capsules at room temperature (15 to 25°C) in the original sealed container.
  • Keep them away from moisture and direct light.
  • Capsules ship in a sealed plastic bottle, a sealed glass bottle or a resealable pouch, depending on the batch. Close it fully after each opening.
  • Record the lot number and keep its certificate with your notes. The certificate reports the measured content per capsule for that lot.
  • For identity checks, compare lab data with C₁₇H₂₂N₂O₄ and 318.4 g/mol.

How to match your lot to its certificate

Every order ships with certificate access for its lot. To check yours:

  • Find the lot under "Your purchasing batch" in the buy box. It shows the lot now shipping.
  • Use the "View COA" button to open that lot's certificate.
  • Look up any published lot in the COA portal.
  • Check that the lot number, compound name and test date on the certificate match your records.
  • Certificates for this product come from Chromate and Freedom Diagnostics. Each one names the lab that ran the test.

Selected research and evidence

Primary research relevant to the named compound or clearly identified component is linked below. Experimental results depend on identity, model and formulation.

  1. Noopept and neurotrophic-factor expressionRat research · 2008 · PMID 19240853

Measured NGF and BDNF expression, with differences between brain regions and exposure conditions. This does not establish a human cognitive benefit.

Documentation and research handling

Retain the product label and lot number with the research record. Review the matching certificate of analysis for test coverage and reported results. Identity, analytical purity, measured content, sterility and endotoxin testing are distinct assessments; one does not establish the others.

Follow the supplied label and your laboratory’s validated handling and storage procedures. Record the vehicle, concentration and preparation date where relevant. Dry-material stability does not establish the shelf life of a prepared solution.

Product questions

What does the labeled capsule or tablet amount mean?

It is the stated quantity per unit, separate from the number of units in the bottle. A purity percentage is not a measurement of milligrams per capsule or tablet. Use the matching lot report for the measurements actually performed.

Where is the batch-specific evidence?

Open the linked certificate for the assigned lot or use the COA portal. Check sample identity, methods, date and reported measurements. A report for another lot or formulation is not a substitute.

Do these studies test this finished product?

The references describe the materials and conditions used by their authors. They do not establish that this commercial formulation was tested. For blends, evidence on an individual component does not validate the finished mixture or establish synergy.
